Indeed, it is easier to just "join the ranks" than actually stand up and commit to the populace fully, intentionally and with integrity. There's very few in any power positions who have managed to do so. Admitting they have been wrong has happened, but rarely unless there has been benefit in doing so. A shame really.

Again, I'd agree with you here too. What the history books say and what has actually transpired, with all the gory details, is not necessarily what in truth has passed. It is very easy to give in to greed, laziness etc. Would be nice if there was some people here that would stand up for election which show they have integrity, that stand up for the smaller guy and who actually can be an administrator/ruler/leader.

"How come leaders of the world have abandoned these teachings?"

I think the seamier side of politics is very daunting to people. The easy out is "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em." It's the power of example. These potential leaders fail to see the value and power of committing to integrity.

I would add that leaders have always deviated from those teachings. History tends to whitewash or completely villainize people who are almost invariably highly textured. This holds true today. Even our "idols" are human. But too many indulge in their human flaws all too readily.
